By 2021, the toothpaste market is predicted to be worth £31.8 billion. Every year, across the globe, we use around 20 billion tubes which can't be recycled due to being made up of several different materials.
Imagine laying the tubes end to end and making a little bridge, one that stretched from Southampton to New York - 20 billion tubes is enough to make 545 of these little bridges every year!

We are starting to see recyclable versions hitting the shelves, even in supermarkets, but currently they're about 6 times more expensive and essentially are still made from plastic.
Online, in plastic free shops and in some cosmetics shops you can find alternatives such as tooth tablets and pastes that come in glass jars. You can even make it at home.
Terracycle (link below) have teamed up with Colgate to set up recycling points for these tubes around the country ... see the link below.
